About bodybuilding

Nowadays, there is a growing trend among many of going to the gym. A number of young boys spend a lot of time at the gym just to increase their biceps and get that “macho” look.

But how many of us are aware of bodybuilding as a sport? Those who have never witnessed a bodybuilding competition will not realise the excitement these contests can generate and can often be compared to that of the final overs of a one-day cricket match.

Here is some information about this not-so-popular sport.

In a bodybuilding contest, there are seven compulsory poses that the contestants have to display. The first is when the contestants have to show their ‘double biceps with thigh muscle’. The ‘latisimus dorsi’ (lats) pose comes next. The third pose is a side pose displaying ‘one- hand biceps and a chest muscle’. Then comes the pose of ‘contraction of back muscle’ followed by the ‘expansion of back muscle’. In the sixth pose the contestants need to exhibit ‘one- hand triceps with a cuff muscle’. Finally the ‘abdominal muscles’ need to be displayed.

The interesting part comes after the contestants have shown the seven compulsory poses. The interesting part is of optional poses with music. The contestants display several artistic poses that reveal their rippling muscles while the music continues in the background.

It is indeed a treat to watch. The spectators also join in the excitement by cheering the contestants, turning the atmosphere absolutely electric. Finally, the person who exhibits the best physique is adjudged the winner.

This very exciting and interesting sport is not very popular due to several reasons. Bodybuilding is a very time-consuming sport. People need to workout for several hours each day to build their bodies properly, and this is very tough in today’s hectic life. Moreover, very few companies sponsor bodybuilders or competitions and popularise them. But we must not let this sport die away and try to help sustain it.
