Samatat Sanskriti of Uttarpara organised the youth Drama Festival which attracted packed halls at Ganabhaban recently in June. The famous theatre group Nandikar produced six skits, all of which were highly interesting and as successful.
Young actors, mostly schoolchildren, took part in the plays. Engrossing stories and impressive acting were the hallmarks of the two-day show. Worth mentioning is Jorai Jorai, which eminent theatre personality Rudraprasad Sengupta, Nandikar, gives top rank – a lovely story of a childless family which is suddenly blessed with twins by a most amusing saint. Everything doubles for the family – joy, troubles, as well as entertainment to the audience.
Another laudable performance was Raja Howar Jhakamari, which was enacted by students of the Ultadanga United High School. The king of Bombagar sends his two sons on an errand to search for the most foolish person living. The son whose find would be more half-witted would be crowned the next king.
Beautiful stories, shimmering costumes and skilled direction made the show very successful. However, more responsible for the success were the young children whose praiseworthy performances kept the audience glued to their seats, providing the young and the old alike with an absolute treat and two unforgettable evenings.
