Kuch Kuch Hota Hai at 19

Did you realise it’s been 19 years since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released? Karan Johar sure didn’t.

The director of the iconic 1998 film tweeted: “Can’t believe it’s been 19 years! So much love and gratitude to everyone who loved my first love! @iamsrk @KajolAtUN #rani @BeingSalmanKhan” along with a poster of the film.

The blockbuster had won national awards for “Best Film for Providing Wholesome Entertainment” and “Best Female Playback Singer”, the latter going to Alka Yagnik for the title track.

Predictably, Karan’s tweet got thousands of likes and retweets.

Shah Rukh and Karan had been inseparable friends of Kajol all along.

But in 2016, KKHH‘s Anjali and the director fell out after 25 years of friendship.

“I don’t have a relationship with Kajol anymore. We’ve had a fallout. Something happened that disturbed me deeply which I will not talk about because it’s something that I like to protect and I feel it would not be fair to her or to me. After two and a half decades, Kajol and I don’t talk at all. We just acknowledge each other, say ‘hello’ and walk past,” Karan wrote in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy.

Karan went on to blame Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn for the rift.

Whether Kajol and Karan have patched up now is a matter of “conjecture” – the director’s favourite word by his own admission. But pointedly, when Kajol retweeted KKHH‘s 19th anniversary tweet with the words “19 years of KKHH. 19 yrs to Dharma productions. Some people are unforgettable…. Miss you Yash uncle!”, she retweeted the official Dharma Productions tweet and not Karan’s.
