Twinkle Khanna has apologised for her comments in defence of her husband in the Akshay Kumar-Mallika Dua controversy.
She had backed Akshay after he received flak for a comment he made on a comedy TV show towards his co-judge, and had also shared two jokes that Mallika retweeted saying she didn’t find them funny.
In the latest post titled “Unwise Wisecracks”, Twinkle wrote: “I realize that I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self, my reaction was purely emotional and without perspective.”
“I would like to apologize to everyone who felt that I was trivializing the cause of feminism especially because I strongly believe in equality and have been a feminist from the time I was a young woman, much before I even knew the term,” she wrote in the Facebook post that she shared on Twitter.
“That’s the thing about parents. They are protective of their children whether they are 5 or whether they are 28,” Mallika tweeted soon after.
The comedian had questioned how the parents would feel if someone said the same thing to Akshay and Twinkle’s five-year-old daughter Nitara.
