Young achiever

Class XI student Dip Ghosh of Nabagram Vidyapith has plenty of prospects of becoming the next Phullela Gopichand.

Dip started taking coaching in badminton at a suburban training centre called ‘Mahadesh Parishad’ under coach Chintaharan Pal, when he was in class VII.

By 2001-02, Dip had started competing in tournaments and in that year he was the runner-up in the School District Championship. The following year, he emerged champion in this same tournament. In 2003-04, took part in doubles at the Hooghly District Championship and emerged winner. The year 2004-05 saw this lad again as the School District runner-up. In 2004-05, he was ranked eighth in the National ranking in the doubles category. For the current year (2005-06), this youngster was a contender at the Kohinoor Cup (State ranking badminton Championship) and emerged runner-up. He stood second in this year’s State Badminton Championship also. A lot of achievements for a youngster indeed!

At present, apart from training at Mahadesh Parishad under Sudip Chatterjee, Dip has also joined the East Kolkata Badminton Coaching Camp where he trains under coach Badrinath Das.

Dip wants to play for India one day. Here’s wishing him the very best so that his dreams come true.
